uBlock Origin is a wide-spectrum content blocker with CPU and memory efficiency as a primary feature.
Manifest V3 is a significant update to the Chrome Extension platform manifest, introducing changes that impact how extensions interact with web content. One of the most significant changes is the modification of the webRequest API, which many content blockers use to intercept and modify network requests. uBlock Origin relies heavily on the webRequest API to block unwanted content before it loads, but under MV3 the webRequest API is limited. Under MV3 extensions are encouraged to use the new declarativeNetRequest API instead, but it lacks some of the dynamic capabilities that uBlock Origin utilizes for advanced content blocking.
Some publishers of Chromium based browsers have promised their MV2 support:
• Vivaldi promises to support Manifest V2 until June 2025.
• MV2 extensions will still work in Brave.
In June 2025, Google plans to remove all remaining Manifest V2 items from the Chrome Web Store. It can be handy to save CRX extensions from the Chrome Web Store with the CRX Extractor/Downloader.
With the arrival of Manifest V3, I consider my preparation to turn back to a Firefox-based browser. If the migration from MV2 to MV3 can no longer be bypassed in Chromium-based browsers, I'll consider to turn back to a Firefox-based browser as my main browser.
Browsers that are committed to MV2 support are a high priority for me and are at the top of my list. What can users expect from CentBrowser?
Will the next version of CentBrowser be updated with MV2 support?
After June 2025, Google may delete MV2-related source code from Chromium, at that time we need to evaluate the workload before deciding whether to continue supporting MV2.
