Hmmm no, I don't use gmail, but I did try to log out of gmail, than log back in and after that I reopened the browser and it was paused again.
Disabling the flag mentioned in the link you sent didn't do anything either.

Never mind I guess, I made a new browser profile, logged in on that one and after everything downloaded/synced, it's working properly now, no longer getting "sync paused" issue with this browser profile.
