Of course. It's more readable.

Lighter is,  definitely worse. To prove it, please compare with FireFox, not with DW on nor older versions.

The gamma of rendering font has been corrected intentionlly since 3.1. It is advised by me and people who noticed that it's abnormal in original Chromium.

This problem appeared since Chromium version 51 or 52. There is another Chromium fork that rightens this wrong.

Why do this? Refer to:
http://browser.taokaizen.com/chrome-directwrite/

As to why it looks different with DirectWrite on, refer to:
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/iss...1490351782

So at last the developers kept  DW on not changed.

Too dark and dirty text in 3.3
Maybe @CentBrowser can tell how to edit gamma manually? Hex editor, Resource editor, etc...

Cent 3.3 & FF 47
Can U tell them apart?

Jesus...what happened to FF59?? Have U disabled DW in FF59?

What's your font? And how it looks when scaled up? Some fonts may appear as bitmap when font size is small, that makes it lighter.

More information is helpful to improve. Maybe I can help testing if developers decided to change it or make it variable.

Thank you. I tested the beta version and everything seems be back to normal now. I haven't found any issues.  Cool
