CB as Default browser under Windows 10 (not working)
#1
Hi CB team,

I'm not sure if this "bug" comes from CentBrowser or Windows 10 (insider builds, fast and slow rings 14295/14372/14376/14379), but when trying to register CB as the default browser, it doesn't work because it doesn't register "HTTPS" protocol

What you can see in this screenshot is all protocoles that CB registers when you confirm it as the default browser (when first launched as a normal user or as admin). Without HTTPS, W10 does not consider CB as the default browser (Edge is kept Dodgy ), even CB keeps asking me if I want to use it as my default browser (every launch). I have to register manually HTTPS to really make it as default browser.

This is not a big nasty bug, but it's really annoying...and as an insider (fast ring), everytime a new build is released (everyday, more or less), I have to manually register, again and again, HTTPS protocol to CB  Sad

Any chance you can keep an eye on that bug ? Or maybe someone can confirm that it's related to insider builds ?

ps : tried also Chromium, same results. Even worst, because nothing is registered to it.

Probably because Win10 update patch added new restriction for setting default browser.
But here no problem encountered under Win10.
Have you tried setting default browser with Chrome 53?
May download here:http://static.centbrowser.cn/chrome_32/5...taller.exe

I will try with Chrome 53, just in case...
EDIT : even worst, it only registers HTTP protocol. Files types are not changed (.htm, .html, etc.), default browser is not set. I hate Windows 10 ! (tried on the new insider build from fast ring : 14379)

ps : yes, I was 99% sure this was (again) a stupid change in Windows 10. It seems that Microsoft tries again to push its (bad) browser in the front of the light. I'm really sick of this kind of behavior !

badablek, have you tried running Chrome/Cent as Administrator to set as default?

yes, of course Wink

I will try to set up a virtual machine with the latest Windows 10 insider ISO, maybe something was corrupted between updates (there was a lot of updates on the fast ring !)

After some tests, I think I have found what is the problem with the default browser under Windows 10 :

As I hate installation in appdata folder, I always launch setups in admin mode and force them (when I can) to install in Program files (and I also take ownership of the Program Files folder, just in case). It works great, but it seems it doesn't allow CentBrowser to change the default browser under Windows 10 (even with admin rights).

How did I see that ? When trying the latest 2.1.9.48/2.1.9.49 and reverting back to 2.0.10.57 (because of this lame "material design"), I didn't pay attention to the installation folder, so it was reinstalled in appdata, and surprisingly, CB was able to change default browser ! As I'm really curious, I removed and reinstalled it again, but in Program Files this time (with admin rights) >> again, I was unable to change the default browser (http and https protocols do not register with CB)

I really don't know if this problem comes from CB or W10...but I really hope you can find a way to fix it  Tongue
Until then, I manually register http and https protocols to CB.

Thanks.

BTW, I will certainly NOT use a Microsoft account and hope it will work Biggrin
and as an insider, I have already tried with and without a Microsoft account on stable and beta builds, fast and slow rings. Nothing changed at all.

CB in appdata > CB can register correctly as the default browser
CB in Program Files > CB can't register as the default browser (until I manually tick http and https protocols)

there must be some kind of stupid access rights (even if I already take ownership of Program Files and I start it with admin rights). I will dig further.
