Compact mode is remembered only with the bookmarks bar. Version 5.2.1168.83 (official assembly), (32 bits). If the bookmarks bar is disconnected, the compact mode is dumped when exiting from the center.

This is an unfinished feature and has been removed in the latest Chromium.
