new feature request - molio - 08-04-2024

I was going to request this after the new version was released and the forum was quiet, but it's August and I'm posting for the time being. First of all, I am expecting 126 to appear.

Request 1

Giant tab counter

This is a feature I would love to see added.
My personal usage is that I tend to open many tabs.
Therefore, it would be great if the number of tabs is displayed.
There are various extensions for tab counters, but due to chrome's limitations, they are very small and difficult to see and distinguish.
For some reason, chrome has a blank area next to the Add New Tab button.
Would it be possible to add a giant tab counter to this area?
I think it would have a close affinity with the position of the tab list in Cent, but what do you think?

A similar concept add-on exists for firefox.

I don't think this is that urgent, and I don't think there are many other things that need to be done, so I'm not saying it's too much to ask.
However, the current implementation is not smart and is a confusing implementation.
When the current tab is switched on, the background switches are grayed out. It looks like it was added just for the sake of it, and it is not smart.

Therefore, move it to the bottom menu position and not a toggle switch,
I would like the two menus to become one and have the selection near the open typed URL in.
If possible,
current tab

in addition to the
foreground tab
in addition to the current tab, it would make it easier to use.
However, this is not that important.
However, I would like to see this method adopted someday, as I think it would reduce user confusion and improve the UX.

I previously stated that if I were asked to choose between the Cent and Chrome tab lists, I would choose the Cent tab list. I also requested that the Cent tab list be retained.
I was satisfied with Cent's tab list because all tabs are displayed in multi-columns and are very easy to read.
I have not changed my mind, but at that time, Chrome's tab list button was in the same position and design as Cent's. But now, at least on Windows, the tab list is not the same.
But now, at least on Windows, Chrome has moved the button to the left edge of the tabs and changed the visual design.
If chrome has given up the position itself, we think it would be fine to use both tab lists at the same time. However, it seems that chromium does not have this source and it is a closed source for Windows binaries only.
So, if you want to add it to Cent, you would have to add your own similar button to the left side of the tabs. However, since chrome is able to add it by itself, there must be a way to add it. I prefer Cent's tab list, but if chrome's tab list can also be used, it would make Cent more useful.

Tab Counter feature seems to be of no much use. What do you use it for?
Request 2
"Force links to open in xxx" refers to the action of clicking a link in a web page, while "Open typed URL in" refers to the action in the address bar. There is no connection between them.
Request 3
In Chromium 127+ there is an option to decide the position of tab list button. Our tab list feature is useable, but it lacks the search function, which we will consider adding in the future. Or we can directly enhance the tab list feature of Chromium.

he probably wanted these functions to be in a dropdown list, since they affect one action, so that there were not several checkboxes. But yes, they are not suitable for the tab settings block

or since these settings relate to clicking on a link, then they probably shouldn't be in the tab settings, but in chrome://settings/cbBrowsing
