Engines are added but after browser restart they gone.

no, they are not...at least not on mine.

auto-added engines are kept, even with this file in read-only mode.

Just tested (again with clean profile) and it works. I used gonintendo.com site and search for Mario, engine was added but after restart is gone Smile

Sorry for that.This issue is not completely fixed indeed.We have located the reason.And what about another solution:we leave "auto add search engines" alone, but not show "other search engines"in the context menu(only show regular search engines like google, bing, yahoo, etc)?

Letting CB grab search engines is not a bad idea, because sometimes it's hard to decypher how to add a search engine. The only bad part is that all those search engines are showed in the right-click. Only regular (approved by user) engines should be in the right-click list to avoid this mess.
