Yes it can be easily done, but is it too much to add an option for an icon?

+1 from me too. I think many of us want gray-dark folders. Maybe you'll integrate this color, not necessarily with an option. This way will be more different (better) than Chrome. With the size of extension toolbar the same. Or make a poll, and see what users really want.
