search engines (not fixed in 1.6.10.21 !) - badablek - 01-08-2016 Hello CentBrowser team, CB is already full of nice features, but there is one little thing that is annoying (in my opinion, at least). I don't know if it's the normal behavior of Chromium, but the feature that adds automatically search engines to CB is really a mess ! I have at least 70 search engines in the list (I didn't ask to), making it hard to read, and this totally ruins the right-click feature : if I must carefully read 70 lines of engines when right-clicking on words to make a search, then I prefer go directly to the search engine and type my request. Look at the screenshots ! what a mess Is there a little chance to change this behavior, or, at least, add an option to fully DISABLE "auto search engine feeding" ps : or maybe there is already an option in chrome://flags ? (I don't remember seeing something about it) EDIT : not fixed in CentBrowser build 1.6.10.21 ! Search engines are still added to the list, even with the option unchecked RE: search engines - Admini - 01-08-2016 Yes, this is default behavior of Chrome and Chromium(and can't disable). It looks really annoying if too many search engines are added. We will try to improve it or put an option there. RE: search engines - badablek - 01-08-2016 chromium have very strange features then if you can disable it, CB will be really clean and optimized. Hope this will be possible...crossing fingers RE: search engines - devious - 01-11-2016 Surely you can at least use cent settings Under the "Search" option, click on "Manage Search Engines" Delete all the web-site chrome saved as search engines under the "Other search Engines" section and any others you don't need from main list. just hover over them click the x to the right. This will at least remove that mess you have. RE: search engines - badablek - 01-11-2016 I know how to remove it...my request was about avoiding it. Thanks anyway BTW removing it is wasting time, because everytime I'll browse websites with search feature, it will be added silently to CentBrowser, again and again Hope CR team will be able to remove that stupid chromium feature (which is not a feature but bullsh*t IMHO) or at least, let the garbage in the "other" search engines, and only show "granted" search engines when right-clicking ! RE: search engines - Admini - 01-12-2016 This option is added in version 1.6.10.21. RE: search engines - badablek - 01-12-2016 thank you ! RE: search engines - badablek - 01-15-2016 like I said in the release thread, that was fast...but after 3 days of tests, i can say, for sure, that it's absolutely NOT working I have of course unchecked the "Auto detect and add search provider", and after some browsing in Amazon and FNAC, their respective search engines were added to the list ! I had the idea to check this in real time, as I wrote this message, you can test yourself :
please, kill that "feature" or at least show only "trusted" and authorized search engines (not the "others" search engines) in the right-click menu. RE: search engines (not fixed in 1.6.10.21 !) - jack - 01-15-2016 Simply solution. Close your browser, find Web Data file (CentBrowser\User Data\Default\) right click, properties and set it to Read only RE: search engines (not fixed in 1.6.10.21 !) - badablek - 01-15-2016 thanks for the tip, will do that until a real solution is added to CB BTW does this file only contain search engines ? (don't want to block anything else) EDIT : absolutely NOT working thanks anyway. |
